🌼 Growing Information
Hoary Vervain (Verbena stricta) is a native perennial adapted to dry prairies and open grasslands. It prefers full sun and grows best in dry to average, well-drained soil. Mature plants typically reach 2–4 feet in height and bloom from early to mid-summer with upright spikes of purple flowers. This species is native to central and eastern North America and is hardy in USDA zones 3–8.
Seeds benefit from cold stratification and are best fall-sown outdoors or stratified before spring planting. Germination may be slow, but established plants are long lived and extremely resilient.
