Famous for its dazzling translucent kernels, Glass Gem produces stunning ears in an incredible range of colors including blue, pink, purple, red, orange, yellow, and green. The jewel-like kernels shine brilliantly, creating cobs that resemble strands of colorful glass beads.
This unique heirloom variety is more than just ornamental. Glass Gem is a flint corn that can be used for popping, grinding into cornmeal, parching, and other traditional culinary uses. The colorful ears make exceptional fall decorations, harvest displays, and seed-saving projects while remaining fully edible.
Originally bred by renowned Cherokee corn preservationist Carl “White Eagle” Barnes, Glass Gem represents an important piece of agricultural heritage.
