Globe Gilia (Gilia capitata) is a native annual wildflower adapted to open grasslands and meadows. It prefers full sun to partial shade and grows best in well-drained, dry to average soil. Mature plants typically reach 12–36 inches in height and bloom from spring into early summer with round blue flower heads. This species is native to western North America and is hardy in regions with cool, moist winters.
Seeds do not require cold stratification and are best fall-sown or early spring sown to take advantage of cool temperatures. Germination is usually quick, and plants readily reseed under favorable conditions.
